Spring Spruce Up!

Are you thinking of putting your house on the market this Spring, but are considering having a freshen up before then? If so, Ashtons have a variety of tips and tricks to make your home more attractive to potential buyers and better yet, without denting the bank account!

1. Clear out the clutter!

Granted, this can be challenging when you have younger children, but can be extremely effective. One way to conceal clutter in your homes is by investing in some plastic storage boxes which can be found on amazon or even in your local B&M for pennies!

Once you have filled these with discarded toys or unused knacks lying around, hide them at the base of a cupboard – you have already transformed your living space into something much more minimalist!

Not only does this show a potential buyer the space they are considering purchasing but can also make the room appear much larger. Another top tip would be to clear off your kitchen worktops by utilizing cupboard space or neatly moving to one side.

2. Make use of the natural light!

Although you can’t magically add some windows, there are subtle ways of incorporating light into your home. First and foremost, ensure that all curtains and blinds have been opened, allowing all the natural sunlight to pour in. If it’s a nice, Spring morning then maybe open a window or the back door – obviously weather permitting!

However, if you happen to have a darker house, then try to make it as cozy and welcoming as possible by turning on some side lamps. Similarly for evening viewings, you want your potential buyer to experience the house as a home.

3. Pops of Colour:

Natural’s, grey’s and beige shades are very much in fashion for interiors now, however little pops of colour can really alter your living space. Head down to your local Garden Centre and pick up a few plants to add some green vibrance to your home.

If you are looking to go that extra mile, then invest in some new cushions for the sofa, a new lampshade or add a colourful fruit bowl. All can come to your new home, so you aren’t out of pocket and can completely transform your home!

4. Dents and Imperfections:

When you’re selling, the last thing you want to be doing is redecorating. Most of the time, imperfections can be concealed by adding something in front. For example, if you have stubborn red wine stain on your carpet from a drunken night in – simply add a rug on top! Or if you have a questionable mark on the wall – a side table or photo can be added to hide this.

If it is something that can’t be amended with a bit of innovative furniture placement, then fear not because we have a thrifty little hack to help the problem… body filler! This can be purchased at your local hardware store but is on average £10 per tub. Simply fill in the dent and let it dry, it couldn’t be easier!

5. Spring cleaning can go a long way!

Of course, this is difficult for last-minute viewings, but ensuring the kitchen and bathrooms are as clean as possible can be the finishing touch needed. This means dishwasher loaded, no washing up in the sink and no food left out.

Before viewings commence, Spring cleaning is a great idea! Try and dust some high shelves, wipe down surfaces and have a quick tidy around – not only does this make the house look fresh, but it’ll smell wonderful!

6. Make the Garden a Feature:

Following on from the dreaded lockdown, the main priority quickly became the garden. A perfect, little oasis of their own private space. Most assume that gardens are irrelevant because they’re usually the last area to be viewed, however they can make such a difference to a property.

Some low maintenance work such as mowing lawns, tidying up the flower beds, and removing children’s or dogs’ toys from eyesight can really improve your outdoor space.

If you have any outdoor furniture, make sure they are looking clean and fresh – a quick wash down with a garden hose is an easy way to fix this, transforming an overgrown outdoor space into a well-kept garden.
