Substantial detached family home enjoying a peaceful and elevated position, with a mature beautifully maintained two thirds of an acre plot situated at the end of a private road.

Exceptionally spacious and full of light, Oak Heights is a five bedroom family home set in two-thirds of an acre of beautifully maintained gardens. Built in the 1980s, the steep-pitched gables reflect the elegance of the Edwardian era. The generous L-shaped kitchen has a bay window to the front and glazed doors to the rear garden, pale blue cabinetry and an electric Aga. Four more reception rooms, including an unusually large bespoke conservatory, plus a study, make up the ground floor. Rebuilt a few years ago, the conservatory is triple glazed with sun-reflecting glass, underfloor heating and air conditioning so is perfectly comfortable all year round. The wide conservatory opens onto both the family room and sitting room, bringing more light into the house, while the office also has glazed doors onto the garden.
A magnificent curved staircase leads to the first floor, where the impressive principal bedroom has a dressing room and generous en-suite, and floor-to-ceiling windows with a Juliette balcony overlooking the rear garden. Two further bedrooms have en-suites, while the main bathroom serves the remaining two.
An annexe in the rear garden houses a well-equipped, air-conditioned gym, sauna and shower cubicle, while at the front of the house there's a detached double garage and plenty of parking space. Extensive lawns at the front and rear are surrounded by mature trees, shrubs and well-stocked flower borders.

The Owner's Story
'It's so private and peaceful here, it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere when you're not – it's less than a mile's walk to the station and Welwyn Garden City is only two miles away. There's just a handful of houses here, we have woods behind us and land in front belonging to a historic country house. The only sound at night is the hooting of owls.
This is a really good family house and a great party house because you can turn the ground floor into a big open space very easily. Both the sitting room and family room open onto the double conservatory, which has bi-fold doors onto the rear garden terrace. You can also open the glass kitchen doors onto the garden.
We haven't had to do much to the house since we moved in but we did add a gym and boot room/utility room a few years ago which is in a separate building two metres from the house. It's got its own shower and cloakroom and lovely views over the garden through the full-length glazing. We also added an en suite to one of the bedrooms so now three of the five bedrooms have their own bathrooms, and updated the kitchen.
This house has been a wonderful family home but it's much too big for me now so I'm ready to hand this house over to a new family.'
