CHANNEL 4 – LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION (a featured property)

Location Location Location, the popular TV property show, hosted by Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp has returned to Channel 4 with a new series. The first episode featured a property on sale through our Village & Country Office in Redbourn.

The story behind Martine Wright and her partner Nicks’ relocation is both courageous and inspirational, as Martine was sitting just three feet away from one of the bombers on the Circle Line on 7 July 2005. Martine lost both her legs in the explosion that followed, and then spent about a year in hospital, learning to walk on prosthetic legs. Following Martine’s rehabilitation the couple decided a new house was required and they set their sights on finding a family home to spend the next 10 or 20 years raising a family.

Ashtons was asked by the programme’s producers to source a bungalow, up to £500,000 in a quiet village or semi rural environment. The search area included St Albans to Redbourn and west to Berkhampstead and Tring.

The Channel 4 film crew spent most of the day setting up and filming at the property with Phil Spencer, Kirstie Allsopp, Nick and Martine visiting to view. Redbourn’s ‘Best Village in Hertfordshire’ accolade was mentioned in the screened programme and footage of the High Street drew attention to its charming buildings and picturesque location.

The couple’s initial reaction to the property was positive, and for a while it looked like they might make an offer. This was until a property in near Tring was viewed. This bungalow was available at a lower price, but still required about £50,000 of improvements to be undertaken. Martine and Nick were smitten by it though, and made an offer. Five months later they moved into their new home.

In the meantime, our property in Redbourn was sold to a local buyer 2 weeks after the filming took place.
