Conflicting Opinions after Nationwide says “House prices fell by 1% in March”
“House prices were pushed lower than a year ago for the first time in six months, after a 1% dip in March compared with February”, The Nationwide said. The price of an average home was down 0.9% compared with the year earlier at £163,327, the biggest annual fall since June 2011. Yet it’s barely a month since Rightmove led with a press release stating they had experienced the “biggest monthly jump in asking prices for a decade".

New stamp duty rate of 7% for the purchase of homes worth more than £2m.
From midnight tonight there will be a new stamp duty rate of 7%, payable on homes worth more than £2m.
The move comes just 12 months after the introduction of a 5% stamp duty band on homes purchased for more than £1m. The 7% rate equates to a £140,000 tax bill on a £2m home.

Stamp duty loophole closed for company owned properties.
During today’s Budget, the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne announced that stamp duty would be charged at 15% in future on properties with a purchase value of over £2m that are paid into a 'corporate envelope'. This closes the loophole that previously allowed some individuals to avoid stamp duty altogether by transferring high-value property into company ownership.
